As they say in Grenada, the Balthazar River isn’t called Grenada’s Great River for nothing. Nestled between the exotic and magnificent tropical rainforest, flora, fauna, and enchanting history of the Balthazar Estate. The Balthazar River is fed from sources deep in the island’s interior. It is the ideal place for our Mt. Parnassus Inn guests to experience the unique blend of nature and adventure. This adventure is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
How to get to The Balthazar River
The Balthazar River is about a 40-45 minute drive from St. George’s and may be reached via the Grand Etang Rainforest Reserve’s hilly but gorgeous interior or the breathtaking Eastern Atlantic coastline.

Option 1: ExplorerGrenada can pick you up from The Mt. Parnassus Inn or your Holiday Accommodations. Several times a day, they leave the capital. When you phone to make a reservation, your pick-up time will be confirmed.
Option 2: Here are the directions from the Mt. Parnassus Inn In Mt. Parnassus, St. George’s. It’s tricky to miss once you’re on Grand Bras Road but check for the River Tubing sign at the NEW bridge, which is just off to the right. Use the directions icon on the map below if you are vacation rental accommodations is not with the Mt. Parnassus Inn.
On your arrival, you will be met by friendly tour guides for the introduction and safety briefing. After the briefing, you will be provided with your life vest and a modified river tube before getting into the river.
The Exhilarating
Snap-on your life vests and helmets, step to the river’s edge, and prepare for an adventure with expert guides as you spin and swirl in the river’s currents and take in the beautiful landscape of tropical greenery and wildlife. As you navigate the river’s surging rapids, you’ll be presented to a rarely seen Grenadian attraction. Along the trip, keep an eye out for some of the many exotic, native species that call this lush tropical area home.
It’s a wild trip down the river, with only brief stops to catch your breath in the pools along the way. After an action-packed day of twists and turns, swimming in natural pools, reward yourself with a well-deserved rum punch or glass of local fruit juice.

- This is a fully guided tour.
- Reservation is required for this tour.
- All travelers must provide with pick up locations
- Shower and changing rooms are available.
- Helmets and life vests are provided. It is mandatory to wear these on tour.
- Children under 5 years are not charged and can share a tube with their parents.
- Maximum Weight: 250 lbs. (115 kg.).
- Operating Minimum: 4 passengers per tour /
- Maximum: 40 passengers per tour.
- Tours may be canceled due to weather and river conditions at short notice. This is totally beyond the control of the staff of Funtastic Island
- All guests will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to the start of the tour.
- Refreshment will consist of one (1) complimentary drink of either fruit juice or rum punch per person on tour.
