Prepare yourself for the culinary adventure of a lifetime. The capital city of Saint George’s, the upscale neighborhood of Lance Aux Epines, the seaside resort of Grand Anse, and the college town of True Blue are all part of Saint George Parish. The cuisine in each of these locations, as well as the highways that connect them, is among the best in the world. Since I travel on a tight budget, all of the restaurants I choose are reasonably priced. Restaurant costs in Grenada are typically 30% to 50% less than those in the United States.
Tipping in Grenada
Tipping is optional in Grenada and should be commensurate with the quality of service. Keep in mind that restaurants and hotels typically include an 18% service charge on the bill; if not, tipping roughly 10% of the total is advised.
BB’s Crabback
Over the years, Oprah Winfrey, Ainsley Harriott, us, and other celebrities have frequented BB’s Crabback, one of the most well-known eateries in Grenada. We had some of the most flavorful Caribbean food we’ve ever had, thanks to BB’s. Although the crabback and curried goat, its two hallmark dishes, are its most well-known offerings, the remainder of the menu is as delicious.
Don’t expect fine dining, despite the restaurant’s recent renovations. It’s Caribbean casual here, as it should be. We also thought the setting was fantastic. Great views of the city and the Grand Anse beach may be seen from the charming veranda at the end of The Carenage in St. George’s.
Carib Sushi Restaurant
Carib Sushi Restaurant is the place to go if you’re looking for sushi in Grenada. First of all, the sushi we had was among the greatest we’ve ever tasted! It caught us off guard because it’s difficult to locate quality sushi in the Caribbean.
On our second visit, we were fortunate enough to sit inside the bar, where we could watch the chefs making everything we requested, after having previously sat outdoors. They even offered us a taste of some of the other rolls they were making, and everything was freshly made.
Aquarium Restaurant
Located near the airport at Magazine Beach, one of our favorite beaches in Grenada, is the Aquarium Restaurant on the sand. Seafood, meats, pastas, tasting plates, and a variety of tapas-style appetizers are among the many options on the elegant but extensive menu. They feature a beachside BBQ and live music on Sundays, which makes it a perfect day to visit, like many other places.
Umbrellas Beach Bar Restaurant
This welcoming beach bar is the ideal spot for a refreshing drink, relaxed lunch, or informal supper because of its prime location on the fine white sands of Grand Anse Beach. It can get quite crowded because Umbrellas is well-liked by locals, visitors, and St. George’s University students for its mouthwatering cuisine and vibrant atmosphere.
Inside, you’ll discover modern, clean spaces. Trees cover a large portion of the beachfront area, which provides stunning views of the glistening ocean. Request a table upstairs for the greatest views in the house. Although there aren’t as many local food options at Umbrellas as there are elsewhere, this is the place to go if you’re craving a salad, sandwich, or burger.
On weekends, take a stroll along the beach in the evening before coming here for a refreshing drink and live music.
What is Grenada’s most well-known dish?
Oil down is Grenada’s most well-known dish. Salted meat (often salted beef or pig tail), breadfruit, coconut milk, turmeric, dumplings, callaloo, and other vegetables are combined to make this one-pot stew. In a big saucepan, everything is layered, topped with seasoned coconut milk, and then cooked slowly until the ingredients are soft and the liquid has been absorbed. The coconut oil that sinks to the bottom of the saucepan when boiling is the source of the name.
