Renting a Car in Grenada
Remember that you must obtain your temporary driver’s license; the rental company will assist you with this process. Several prominent firms can offer a license, while several of our private rentals require you to visit the local police station to obtain one. I propose that you obtain your own Collision Damage Waiver. There are several companies available on the internet, depending on your place of origin.
Grenada auto rental has many advantages: the island has some beautiful unspoiled beaches that can only be reached by car. One of the most helpful objects you’ll need is a map of the island; you won’t get lost for long. There are few road signs in the countryside, so if you’re not sure where you are, stop and ask someone. But every road leads to St George’s!
They’ll point you in the right direction. The literal descriptions in their directions will confuse you. “You go so–and then you go so” is a typical directive. Left and right are hardly utilized!
Driving in Grenada.
Driving in Grenada is on the left-hand side of the road. Because of the British influence in this section of the Caribbean in the past, everything related to automobiles employs UK terminology – yet visitors from the United States and Canada have never had any problems. It is a slower pace of living. The traffic isn’t like New York’s! Just remember that auto means automobile, gas = fuel, and that you get 2.67 local currency (EC$) for every one US dollar (excellent, eh?) and you should be fine. Take it easy; you’re on vacation.
Car rental can be arranged for you prior to your arrival. An average vehicle costs roughly $US300-350$ (£230-£365) each week, depending on the kind of automobile you choose, the period of your stay, the current EC$ rate, and the season.
A local licence is required, which may be obtained from either the rental company or our local police station. Costs are roughly EC$68 (US$25). A full, clean US/Canadian/British/International driver’s licence is required.
To allow yourself time to adjust, we recommend that you pick up your rental car the morning after you arrive. Your automobile will be brought to the property at a mutually agreed-upon time. If you want to dine out on your first night, our taxi service is available for rent; more information may be found at the hotel.
Under-26-year-olds cannot rent a car on the island.
